Travel tips for New Zealand
New Zealand is a very popular holiday destination for travellers of all nationalities, but there are a few things you need to know about the country in order to get the most out of your trip. If you don’t know these things, you may leave with a bitter taste in your mouth, just like some disappointed travellers have.
THE WEATHER
There’s no guarantee you’ll get good weather in New Zealand. Mother nature doesn’t care about your plans, so be flexible. It’s possible that the weather during the two or three days you are in the Glacier region will make flying unsafe and you won’t see the glaciers if you want to fly over them. Skiers have the same problem. Ski resorts haven’t had enough snow some years.
THE CRIME
On vacation, people get complacent and some get caught out. Tourists have been robbed and assaulted in New Zealand. One lady got her laptop stolen in Franz Josef Glacier one day. She lost all the photos from her overseas trip. Always back up your files. She could still have her photos if she saved them to her email address or put them on Facebook.
THE SOUVENIRS
It’s not uncommon to find souvenirs for sale at tourist hotspots, but have you ever wondered where they’re made? If you think “China” then you’re probably right. If you want a genuine New Zealand made item, ask the seller about it. Souvenirs should be something you’ll use, like clothing or books, not something you’ll just leave in a drawer or on a shelf gathering dust.
THE TOURISTS
The problem with some parts of New Zealand is that there are just too many tourists around, especially in tourist hot spots, and the workers in those resorts aren’t New Zealanders either. Mixing and meeting with the locals is part of the Kiwi experience, so spend some time in the provincial towns if you want to meet real Kiwis. There’s no doubt that New Zealand is a beautiful country and a wonderful holiday destination. New Zealand is the perfect destination for a once in a lifetime trip if you’ve never been. To get the most out of your holiday and avoid some of the calamities that other holiday makers have experienced, you might want to consider these things.
