Public transportation is a convenient and affordable way to get around Malaysia’s bustling capital city of Kuala Lumpur. There are a number of buses, trains, and light rail lines that make it easy to navigate from one point to another in the city. Kuala Lumpur is easy to navigate by public transportation. Kuala Lumpur has four public transportation systems that can help you get around.
1. Transport by monorail
Featuring air-conditioned coaches, the KL monorail and LRT network operates from 6 am to midnight. There are several points where the system is connected, and fares range between RM0.70 and RM2.80 per single journey.
2. Taking a taxi
A taxi can easily be found at a hotel or at a taxi stand. Fares start at RM3 for the first kilometer and RM0.10 for every 115 meters thereafter. A 50% surcharge will apply between midnight and 6 am on the metered fare, and the luggage charge will be RM1 for the third passenger (maximum four in a car). RM2 extra can be paid for booking a taxi by phone.
3. Taking the bus
In Kuala Lumpur, buses operate throughout the city at fares as low as RM1. Some hotels also provide free bus shuttles to major shopping malls.
4. By KL Hop-on/Hop-off Bus Service
This bus connects you to 40 attractions around the city with 22 designated stops. It operates between 8.30 am and 8.30 pm, and tickets are RM38 with discounts for students, seniors, and children.
